In June of 2020, Loyola released a statement about condemning systemic racism. It was later posted to their official Instagram, where it was met with skepticism from several students and alumni.
During the summer of 2020, alumni of color addressed the President, his Cabinet, and the University’s Board of Trustees in a letter proposing five actionable, antiracist reform points at Loyola. Additionally, the cohort and their supporters vowed to cease donations to Loyola until they saw change implemented.
At the onset of COVID-19, many members of the Loyola community continued working tirelessly to make safety measures more accessible.
